PRINCIPAL'S NEWSLETTER

The beginning of the school year is off to a great start.   It seems like the year just began and so is hard to believe that October is already here.  As we look over the schedule, we notice many essential dates for your calendars.

First, we will be observing Fire Prevention Week the week of October 7th.  We want to thank the Grover Hill Fire Department for the many educational activities they have planned for the students.

Second, the month of October brings the first quarter to a close.  Since the first quarter ends on October 25th, we feel it is vital at this time to schedule a time for parents and teachers to sit down and discuss student progress.   Parent/Teacher conferences begin on Wednesday, November 6th from 5:30 to 8:30 and again on Thursday, November 7th, from 1:00 to 8:00.  The WTGH goal for this year is for 100% of the parents to attend these essential conferences. The WTGH staff and I would like to encourage all parents to make time to schedule meetings with their child’s teacher.

Next, during October, our third-grade students will take the English Language Arts Fall state assessment.  We have scheduled our Fall assessment dates for October 22 and 23.   Each year it is our goal to help the students do their best.  Parents, we also need your assistance.  The best help to make sure your child gets a good night sleep as well as a good breakfast on test days.

We want to say thank you to all involved in making this year’ fundraiser a huge success.  The PTO fundraiser was very successful again this year.  The funds raised during this PTO fundraiser are used to pay for assemblies, field trips, and many other items that benefit the Grover Hill students.  At this time, the staff and I would like to take this time to THANK the PTO for all they do for WTGH students and teachers.  Also, on behalf of the PTO, I would like to thank the WTGH community members for their support.

Finally, on Friday, November 1st, we will hold our Halloween parties.  On November 1st, we will hold our fall parade along with the classroom parties.  The parade will begin at 2:00. Again, this year we would like to invite all parents and grandparents to come out for the parade.

In closing, we want to thank the WTGH PTO for their purchase of Gaga Ball pit.  Gaga Ball is a fun and exciting game the students enjoy playing during recess.  The students have enjoyed this new addition to our playground and are very thankful to the PTO.  Also, we would like to thank the ground crew for their work as they installed an 8-foot basketball hoop for the younger students.

Sincerely,
Kevin E. Wilson, Principal
